Haad Sairee Restaurants & Bars

Eating on Koh Tao has become more diverse and interesting as the island has developed, and it is now far from the gaggle of street stalls and plastic tables it once was. Thankfully, these and the good local Thai restaurants and markets haven’t been squeezed out and continue to serve up quality Thai cuisine, so you can always find something cheap and authentic if that’s what you’re after.

There is also now a great range of cheap but more upmarket Thai restaurants which offer the same great food in a slightly more romantic setting. But for those who hanker after some Western food during their trip, the options are now also numerous.

As Koh Tao has become somewhat of a party island, spicy Asian food will not always be the best thing for a delicate stomach. You can, therefore, find everything here, including Japanese, Italian, Mexican, British, Aussie and US menus, with many places serving up a good mixture of all.

Nightlife options are also now numerous on this funky little island. Bars and lounges line the main beaches and are dotted around the town, with many staying open late as long as the revellers are still revelling. Most people start the night off in some low-key bars before following the crowd to the nosiest party when everything else has shut.

The curries are traditional and the portions generous. The menu is also extensive, including vegetarian and seafood options.

Farango Pizzeria
Located in Sairee Village, Farango Pizzeria and Steak House is one of the long-standing and reliable favourites in Koh Tao. It is busy every day, which is testimony to its great pizzas and pastas. The atmosphere is always buzzing with a Latin vibe, but if you don’t feel like venturing out, they will deliver to your hotel.

The Simple Life

Recommended Haad Sairee Bars

Choppers Bar and Grill
There are plenty of bars to choose from in Sairee, depending on your mood and budget. A popular bar, especially for sports fans, is Choppers Bar and Grill; it is very easy to find thanks to the chopper bike outside. It’s a huge venue on two storeys with live music, TV screens all around showing sports, a pool table and a cinema room. It serves Aussie-style pub grub for those in need of a burger or a steak.

Bar Lotus
For people looking for a beach bar experience, Bar Lotus comes highly recommended. It is busy every night so you will always find some fellow party-goers. It’s a typical Thai-style bar with cushions and low tables set out on the beach for chilling and watching the sunset. As night approaches, lanterns are lit and the fire twirlers begin their show. The open-air deck becomes a dance floor later as the revellers arrive and the DJs get on the decks.
